What We Did
Distilleries are typically classified as high-hazard industrial occupancies. This classification has many onerous implications, most of which are not based on the scale of hazard, nor the scale of the proposed operation. One of these implications is that distilleries are prohibited within Part 9 buildings.
The perfect space came up, but it was a Part 9 building, so they came to us for help.
We were able to complete an Alternative Solution Report, that measured and evaluated all applicable hazards, and prescribed steps to mitigate the associated risks in order to reclassify the distillery as a medium-hazard industrial occupancy.
The report was accepted by the Municipality of Tofino, allowing our client to occupy the space. We encourage you to stop in and taste something amazing!
